You know the old saying, “when you assume, you make an ass out of u and me”. Good information management practices aren’t just for the Fortune 1000. Today, every company is responsible for its data and for securing its customers’ information, no matter how much it costs to do so. You should not “assume” that just because your organization isn’t a public company or a large, global enterprise that you are exempt from federal and state compliance laws. In today’s litigious business world, the possibility of being dragged into a lawsuit is very real, and if that happens, you will likely need to make your information available to the process.
